A 60-year-old woman died this lunchtime after falling into the sea on the Güímar coast. Emergency services say that they were called out at 1.22pm after receiving reports that the woman had fallen into the water near the Santa Lucía hermitage. A scuba diver located her and got her to shore, staying with her until rescuers arrived, and a GES helicopter transferred her to TFN where an ambulance was waiting to take her to HUC. She was admitted to University Hospital in critical condition but sadly, despite the resuscitation efforts of medical crews and personnel, she died shortly after arrival.

Although this appears to have been a tragic accident, Tenerife’s waters can be enjoyed safely but require care. Please see HERE for advice on all aspects of staying safe in the water here, including beach flags.
