Updated 17 January 2019: Not the busiest weekend, this, but it’s a good one! There are a couple of cracking musicals on offer, with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar in English in the Pirámide de Arona in Playa de Las Américas until 20 January and the Jersey Beats bring musical spectacle to Los Cristianos’ auditorium for one night only on Friday. And then on Saturday and, especially Sunday, there’s the massively popular San Sebastian blessing of goats, sheep and horses in the sea in La Caleta. Whatever you’re doing, have a great weekend!
Updated 20 December 2018: Christmas starts here, with a whole series of events lined up for this Christmas weekend and through to Christmas itself. Tomorrow, Friday 21 December, there are the Christmas extravaganza in Coral Mar, Silencio, from Tenerife Family Church, the Original Jacksons in concert in Santa Cruz, and the start of the PIT – annual children’s fair – in Santa Cruz’ Recinto Ferial. Then on Saturday, there’s a Christmas market in Alcalá followed on Sunday by Callao Salvaje’s annual Christmas Carol concert with Pastor Ken Cumming and Christmas carols in Coral Mar, Silencio, from Tenerife Family Church. On Christmas Eve there are carols by night in Callao Salvaje and in San Blas where there is also a Midnight Mass, and of course, on Tuesday there’s the Annual Christmas Day concert by Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in Santa Cruz harbour. These are just highlights, of course, and for all the events taking place in Tenerife over this weekend and next week right up to New Year’s Eve, have a look at the official Christmas programmes which are listed HERE municipality by municipality.
Updated 13 December: It’s the last weekend before Christmas weekend itself, and so to go with the stars on top of the Christmas trees there are some of the shooting kind to be seen as well with the Geminids meteor shower peaking tonight and tomorrow night: this is known as one of the best meteor showers of the year with around 100 meteors an hour and, this year, optimum conditions because there’s only a quarter moon and that will be setting early anyway!
For entertainment, there are two Christmas markets, tomorrow Friday, and also tomorrow is Swan Lake, the first of two ballets the RFB Ballet de Moscú is putting on in Los Cristianos – the other is the archetypal Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, on Saturday. Also on Saturday, there’s the annual Christmas market in Golf del Sur from Tenerife Family Church, and the Live Arico’s Christmas party to raise funds for an abandoned ill dog.
On Sunday, the massively popular and important Walk for Life will again see a wave of pink moving throughout south Tenerife to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer survivors, sufferers, supporters and research. Whatever you’re doing this weekend and however you’re spending it, I hope you have a magical and very Christmassy time.
Updated 6 December: The weekend, and to some extent Christmas itself, starts today with the first of December’s three public holidays today: the second one is also this weekend, on Saturday 8th, and the third is Christmas Day itself of course! On Saturday, Santiago del Teide’s Acantilado de Sabores will be taking place in the plaza in Puerto de Santiago, and on Sunday, there’s the Circolandia Christmas Special in La Orotava: this is the first of two shows this Christmas season, with the second in Los Cristianos on the 30th.
Also on Sunday there’s a great event at Yates Showbar in Starco – a Christmas Charity party for Helping Hands and Live Arico, and since it’s an incredible ten years since Adeje’s Farmer’s Market opened, there will be Special events to celebrate the anniversary. Motoring fans, or those who feel like something other than food or Christmas, need look no further than Tamaimo which will be the start of the first ever Santiago del Teide Speed Rally on Friday and Saturday. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope you have a lovely time, and that you’re starting to feel increasingly festive!
Updated 30 November: A busy weekend is in store as Christmas starts in Tenerife even as the island celebrates its autumnal fiestas in honour of San Andrés with chestnut events in many towns. Adeje and Arona are turning on their Christmas lights tonight with events in the Plaza de España in Adeje, and in Valle San Lorenzo, Los Cristianos, and Las Galletas in Arona, the first of the three coinciding with the towns’s San Andrés chestnuts evening. The lights will be going on tonight too in La Orotava which is also celebrating San Andrés for the event, and Puerto de la Cruz will be turning its own lights on at 7.30pm tomorrow Saturday 1 December at 7.30pm in the Plaza de la Iglesia. Click HERE for Christmas in Tenerife, and HERE for information about San Andrés.
Also tomorrow the rearranged La Laguna Noche en Blanco will see the town open all night, with Christmas decorations and lights illuminating the jampacked pedestrianised streets of the historic centre in a party atmosphere that’s hard to equal! This is a place that’s simultaneously a Unesco World Cultural & Heritage Site and a University town; it’s lively and stunning at the best of times but during the Noche en Blanco it is absolutely buzzing, with live street performances including jazz sessions and acrobats alongside shoppers and finger food on offer everywhere you look. It is THE place to be tomorrow night, so even though there’s a tram strike, try to get there one way or another!
An alternative tomorrow for motoring fans, is the 5ª Subida de Arico rally, and also tomorrow, and again on Sunday, the Christmas pantomime from Ritmania students in aid of Helping Hands charity takes place in the Cabo Blanco Centro Civico, and on Sunday only, Joshua Nelson & The New York Gospel Proyect will be raising the roof of Guía de Isora auditorium. Whatever you’re doing or celebrating this weekend, I hope you have a fantastic time!
Updated 16 November: Two events have already been postponed this weekend because of the weather forecast: La Laguna’s Noche en Blanco has been delayed until 1 December, and the Fería Insular de Artesanía Adeje 2018 has been postponed until further notice. The Recinto Ferial, however, is under cover in Santa Cruz, and so the Exposaldo Invierno Winter Bargain Fair 2018 continues as planned. One outdoor event that is going ahead despite the forecast is the biggest rally of the year – the Isle of Tenerife Rally – on Saturday 17 November: there are more details HERE (any problems in getting the rally site to load are caused by its security certificate: there’s nothing wrong with the site just an out of date cert, so just remove the “s” from the “https”). Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope it’s warm and dry for you, and that you have a great time!
Updated 8 November: Lots going on this weekend, starting today with the regular Thursday Canarias Folk Fest in Los Cristianosfollowed on Saturday by the Los Cristianos wine and food festival 2018. Moving along to Adeje tomorrow, there’s a Burka Teatre performance as part of the Adeje Festival of Theatre and Dance as well as events in the town’s Degusta.me annual foodies’ month- including Ruta de Tapas. From tomorrow through to Sunday Siam Mall will again be the home of Tenerife’s Motor Show 2018, and on Saturday, Arona’s Got Talent gala concert in Los Cristianos auditorium. And then, on Sunday, good luck to everyone taking part in the Santa Cruz marathon 2018, and well done to all those who are going to cheer them on, or for those looking for another type of stars, there’s the Science Fair in La Orotava with robotics, solar observation and much more! Whatever you’re planning for this weekend, I hope you have a great time.
Updated 26 October: This weekend makes rather a week of it! Tomorrow sees the start of the week-long Fería Tricontinental in the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz, where artisans and crafters come from South America, Africa and Europe to show and sell the products created by their amazing talent! Also tomorrow, Autumnal Tenerife’s San Andres month starts with the chestnut fair in Tacoronte.
And then, it’s Halloween, which is technically next Wednesday but starts on Sunday with a Siam Mall spooky extravaganza for Halloween for all the family. Halloween continues on the 31st itself with a Halloween thriller in Plaza Salytien in the Costa Adeje, a shopping evening in Las Galletas town centre, and a full-on party in Los Gigantes!
Other things for the next few days are Puerto de la Cruz’s Noche en Blanco tomorrow, the Music and dance charity gala Show Stoppers 2018 in Los Cristianos this coming Monday 29th, and of course there are the clocks to turn back overnight tomorrow Saturday-Sunday. Whatever you’re doing over this weekend, or Halloween over the start of next week, have a great time!
Updated 11 October: The weekend starts today with the first of the Canarias Folk Fest events in Los Cristianos – these will be every Thursday between now and April next year with even more over the Christmas period. This Friday, 12 October, is the first day of the two-day XVI Subida Arona-La Escalona rally, and Friday is also a public holiday for Día de la Hispanidad, so many shops and offices outside the main tourist areas will be shut. For foodies, the Saborea San Miguel de Abona 2018 starts on Saturday 13 October and runs through to 10 November, and from Sunday 14 running to 4 November there is another edition of Granadilla’s Mándate Una Tapa. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope you have a lovely time.
Updated 4 October: A varied weekend, this one, with the start today of the Siam Art Gallery in Siam Mall, a range of exhibitions, children’s workshops, body art plus other activities on offer with something entertaining happening every day until the 21st of the month. Also starting this weekend and lasting until the 21st are Adeje’s Fiestas Patronales, filling the town with food and music, religion and fun for all. Tomorrow sees the start of the two-day Subida a Tamaimo rally and the three day wedding exhibition Feboda 2018 in the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz.
On Saturday, Arona’s Day of Traditions will be lit by 10,000 candles in the historic town centre, and also on Saturday, the Infantry Regiment band of the army’s Canarian Command will be offering a concert (see the poster just below) in Santa Cruz in honour of the Día de Canarias (the day itself is a public Holiday and is actually on the 12th). For those who don’t want to do anything other than lie on the ground and gaze at the sky, however, this weekend also has the first of two meteor showers we’ll see this month, with the Draconids through the weekend, peaking on Monday.
Updated 30 August: A busy weekend this one, with the 63rd Cycling Tour of Tenerife taking over many of the island’s roads, especially in the north, between today and Sunday. Also between tomorrow and Sunday are the Pinolere ethnographic village arts and crafts fair and Candelaria’s third three-day Drone Festival for anyone interested in playing or working with drones. Tomorrow Friday, anyone interested in Canarian wines should head to the lovely little Puertito de Güímar which is holding La Fiesta de los Vinos, and also alcoholic and for the whole weekend, the Bavarian Oktoberfest takes place in Puerto de la Cruz between Friday and Sunday. On Sunday itself some incredible athletes will be taking part in the Guía de Isora triathlon, and this weekend is also the first of two weekends celebrating Los Abrigos’ fiestas patronales de San Blas and the culminating weekend of Los Cristianos Virgen del Carmen fiesta.
Updated 24 August: A lovely weekend this, I think! Today sees the start of the second weekend of the Canarian and National show jumping championships in Centro Hípico del Sur, Buzanada, which are going on throughout the weekend until Sunday, while in Los Cristianos the Cooking demonstrations and food tasting for the sixth Feria del Pescado are today and tomorrow only. The fish fair coincides, indeed, with the start tomorrow of Los Cristianos Virgen del Carmen fiesta which goes on until Monday 3 September. On Sunday 26 August the Romería barquera is the main day of Las Galletas’ San Casiano fiesta, and also on Sunday and equally religious but the other side of the island, the fabulous Corazones de Tejina fiesta in the north has its main day.
Perhaps the biggest events of the weekend, however, are a couple of concerts given by the world famous Los Sabandeños Canarian folklore group who are performing tonight in Los Cristianos from 9pm honouring the local fisherman who are having their annual Feria, and again tomorrow night in El Médano to close the Sansofé season. Tomorrow night also offers a blast from the past in Playa Paraiso when Sam Fox performs in the Hard Rock Hotel’s Children of the 80s concert in Playa Paraiso. Whatever your plans are for this weekend, I hope you have a great time.
Updated 10 August: A mixed bag of very popular entertainment this weekend! Today and tomorrow are the last two days of the PWA windsurf World Cup in El Médano, and tomorrow itself sees the Bay swim – travesía a nado – in Alcalá, and the Sunblast 2018 musical festival in Golf Costa Adeje. (The Annual Los Abrigos Beer Festival has unfortunately been cancelled). And on Sunday in Showtime Las Américas, the Battle of the Bands introduces new musicians raising money for Walk for Life. Whatever you’re doing and however you spend it, have a great weekend!
Updated 27 July: This weekend kicks off with a Jazz concert on Playa San Juan’s promenade this evening and the first of a two day Summer Gastromerkado in La Orotava. It’s also the second weekend of the Canarias Surf Film Festival, and tomorrow the Arona Summer Festival 2018 will fill the air around the new festival ground in Amarilla Golf with music while others enjoy some specialist brews in the Craft beer festival in Alcalá. There are also events in El Médano and Los Abrigos as part of Granadilla Ayuntamiento’s Sansofe summer programme, and for motoring fans, a inter-island championship rally in the historic town of La Laguna itself! However you spend the weekend, have a good one!
Updated 20 July: A varied few days in store this weekend, with the Craft beer festival in La Laguna today and tomorrow, and the start today of the two-weekend Canarias Surf Film Festival. Tomorrow there are the spectacles of the La Caleta Bay Swim and of a Boxing night in Adeje, and on Sunday, there’s something completely different with the RFB Ballet de Moscú’s Don Quijote being performed in Los Cristianos. Finally, on Saturday and Sunday, inexplicably and without notice moved from the initially announced date of last weekend, there is the Indian Ratha Yatra festival in Playa de las Américas and the ongoing summer-long Sansofe cultural programme in El Médano and Los Abrigos. Whatever you’re doing, have a lovely weekend!
Updated 6 July: The taste of traditional Tenerife summer this weekend, with the Chirche Day of traditions from today until Sunday, and the start of Sansofé 2018 in El Médano and Los Abrigos. Tomorrow, Saturday, anyone in the Santiago del Teide coast area can enjoy the spectacle of the Travesía a nado – bay swim – between Playa La Arena and Puerto Santiago, and also involving the sea, though not this actual weekend, no-one should miss the Embarcación de la Virgen in Puerto de la Cruz’s Virgen del Carmen fiesta next Tuesday, 10 July. Whatever you’re doing, enjoy the first real weekend of Tenerife’s summer season!
Updated 28 June: Again the weekend starts early, with a three day cultural event – Feeling Groovy in Adeje – starting today, and ending on Saturday with a music festival. Also a three day event, the Santa Blues de Tenerife starts tomorrow, Friday 29th, shared between north and south Tenerife. Also tomorrow there’s the ever-popular Sensaciones ‘Más que Mar’ in Los Abrigos, and then on Saturday, the mountain race Carrera Montaña Aripe. The less strenuously athletic, however, might prefer the Puerto Street Market takes over Puerto de la Cruz, also on Saturday. Whatever you’re doing, have a great weekend!
Updated 21 June: The weekend starts here, and it’s a particularly magical one! This evening, at Güímar, the ethnographic park throws open its doors from 6.40pm for the public to celebrate the Summer Solstice from the perspective of the alignment of the pyramids with the double sunset. The less Druidic, but equally mystic, may prefer to go along to Puerto de la Cruz’s free yoga session to celebrate World Yoga Day.
The weekend, though, belongs to San Juan Bautista (St John the Baptist), whose fiesta will see burning bonfires throughout Tenerife on Saturday Night, the Noche de San Juan. It’s midsummer, and the pagan roots of the Christian festival are clear for all to see as the braver ones on the beaches leap over their bonfires three times to purify themselves – a human version of the literal “scapegoats” who will be cleansed in the spectacular bathing in the sea on Sunday morning, the Día de San Juan itself .
Also on Saturday, there is a FACT fundraiser in Playa de las Américas and on Sunday Stars in the making produce Beauty and the Beast in Adeje. Whatever you’re doing and however you spend it, have a great weekend!
Updated 7 June: Another busy weekend and again starting early with the La Orotava Corpus Christi sand carpet display today. Then from tomorrow Friday 8 until Sunday 10 the TF463 between Playa San Juan and Guía de Isora town will be taken over by the Subida a Guía de Isora rally so motor enthusiasts will be thrilled and others will at least know to avoid the area! On Saturday 9 the CajaMar Tenerife Bluetrail 2018 will see some 1,600 runners from 28 countries run up, over, and around Mt Teide, perhaps more a spectator event for those who aren’t “extreme sports” participants!
A far more leisurely event takes place over Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 when the emblematic and beautiful internal patios of the Museo de la Naturaleza y el Hombre will host the Despacio Museo Market – Tenerife museum arts and crafts shopping “in the slow lane”, with arts and crafts from certified artisans on the theme of the plant world. That is a gentle, relaxed and beautiful excuse for those in the south to go to Santa Cruz and see the marvellous museum as well as the market, but for those staying in the south, Adeje holds 11th edition of diversity theatre on Monday 11 June, so an ideal example that it’s not just Britain’s Got Talent that champions disabled performers!
However you spend your weekend, have a lovely time!
Updated 30 May: This is a long and busy weekend! It starts today, Wednesday 30 May, because this is a Canaries-wide public holiday for Día de Canarias: some places will already have started celebrations and many more will continue through the whole weekend, often with a traditional dance, the Baile de Magos. Yesterday the ARN Culture Pride festival in Playa de las Américas started and will also go through the whole weekend.
Tomorrow Thursday sees the start of the VI International Jazz Week in La Laguna which goes until Saturday 9 June, and on Friday and Saturday there is the Orvecame rally throughout north Tenerife. On Saturday and Sunday in Las Galletas the harbour will be home to the ever-popular Fenautica 2018, and throughout the south people will be preparing Corpus Christi sand carpets.
Something for everyone, whether on water, on the roads, in plazas or churches! Whatever you’re doing and however you spend it, I hope you have a great weekend!
Updated 24 May: Lots going on this weekend, including today, Thursday! The Tenerife Walking Festival 2018 is in full flow, coming to an end this Saturday in Puerto de la Cruz where a closing party is thrown open to all, not just walkers! Also partying on Saturday will be Los Gigantes with the resort’s first ever craft beer festival and Playa San Juan with a free music concert on the promenade.
Tomorrow 25 May sees the start of FICMEC 2018 in Garachico an international environmental film festival that will run for just over a week until 3 June. Finally, today 24 May is the last day of the Santa Cruz food fair – Salon Gastronómico de Canarias 2018: doors are open until 8.30pm tonight so there’s still time to go. However you spend this weekend, I hope you have a great time.
Updated 10 May: This weekend has two major events and starts early with the first of them, namely the Festival Mueca in Puerto de la Cruz starting today and lasting until Sunday 13 May. In the south, there’s something rather different with the Adeje motor rally tomorrow Friday 11th and Saturday 12th, with the event this year seeking to add to its status as one of the classification rallies for the Spanish national championship by being additionally incorporated into a classification rally for the European Championship. The stages and timetables are HERE. On Saturday evening, too, there is the ever-popular Burka Teatro bringing its new drama “Cosas del XVI” to Guía de Isora town centre from 7.30pm. Whether you’re partying in the north, or watching racing or drama in the south, have a great weekend wherever you are!

Also on Saturday is The Camino del Hermano Pedro – an annual walk from Vilaflor to the saint’s cave near El Médano. And finally, on Sunday night, there’s the peak of the Lyrids meteor shower. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, have a lovely time!
Updated 12 April: This weekend sees one of the most popular devotional events in Tenerife take place. On Sunday, 15 April, the annual Rogativa de la Virgen de la Encarnación takes place in Adeje with thousands walk with the statue of the Virgin Mary along the old path from the top of Adeje town to La Caleta to fulfil a promise made generations ago. It is a sight to behold, as well as an incredible event to take part in.
Before Sunday, though, there’s the XXIX Feria del Libro Arona 2018 in Los Cristianos between Thursday and Saturday, 12-14 April, and the Classic Villa de Tegueste rally in the Arico area on Friday and Saturday, 13 and 14 April. And then on Saturday 14 April itself the Gran Melía annual cross solidario charity run part of Guía de Isora Sports Fair takes place in Alcalá. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope you have a lovely time.
Updated 6 April: This weekend is one of the more famous ones in Tenerife, with the Las Galletas Half Marathon on Sunday 8 April. Those going to watch, or anyone just needing to go to the area on Sunday, should allow extra time and assume diversions will be in place for the duration of the race. Before that, however, on Saturday 7 April there’s a car show in San Isidro – Expomotor 2018 – an event being promoted as Tenerife’s largest motor show, and on the same day, the Atogo rally sprint.
Away from roads, however, one for foodies is the VIII Feria del Queso de Canarias in Pinolere ethnographic museum village on both Saturday and Sunday. Pinolere is worth a visit in its own right, and when combined with one of Tenerife’s most famous and celebrated products, will be very worth going to at some point over this weekend. However you spend it, I hope yours is a good one!
Updated 17 March 2018: Thanks to the Christmas programmes and a month or so of carnivals throughout Tenerife, there haven’t been many “busy weekends” lately. Until now! Today, of course, is St Patrick’s Day, and there will be parties throughout Tenerife, especially in the south and especially in the tourist areas. Virtually every bar will be an honorary Irish establishment today, and even Adeje Ayuntamiento has joined the Green Wave of greening! Wherever you look today, I would say, you will see something going on with an Irish theme!
Also this evening there is the Noche de tapas y vino in Playa San Juan, a now very popular annual event with wine and tapas in the main harbour area of the town, and also the first Dynamite Domínguez Boxing Evening in Adeje in support of bullying victims. The other side of Tenerife, in Arafo, there’s an artisan fair on today and tomorrow in the Plaza de San Juan Degollado, and tomorrow, Sunday 18 March, back in the south and west, there is a “water route” in Adeje, an event explaining and celebrating the importance of water in local society’s evolution, and an almond route walk in Guía de Isora taking place alongside the borough’s wine competition.
However you spend the weekend, have a lovely time!
Updated 14 December 2017: The last weekend before Christmas weekend is a very busy one with events building up to the main celebrations, and it starts today in Los Cristianos with another of the cultural events in the Canarias Folk Fest. Last week’s was cancelled because of the weather, but today’s is going ahead with typical Canarian foods, arts and crafts all on display, music, dancing, etc, in the Plaza de La Pescadora on the harbour promenade from around 4pm. Alternatively, head to Adeje’s Plaza de España this evening for a Christmas concert with ever-popular military band music!
Tomorrow, Friday 15th, there are Christmas carols around the Apolo Centre with refreshments courtesy of the South Tenerife Christian Fellowship, a Christmas concert with the Tony Washington Gospel Singers in Los Cristianos auditorium, and a Christmas market in Guía de Isora Church Square from 6pm.
There is a Christmas market too on Saturday 16th in Playa san Juan, which is followed by a charity night run aimed at ensuring that all children in the borough have at least one gift to wake up to on Reyes. Also on Saturday, another market is being held in the Golf del Sur with handmade crafts and Christmas Carols at Winter Gardens.
Sunday, 17 December, is a major day in south Tenerife with the annual Walk for Life starting from 11am at the Magma Centre. As a reward, why not end the day with mince pies at the Apolo Centre for the South Tenerife Christian Fellowship Christmas carol service from 6pm?
Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope you have a lovely time and start to feel really festive!
Updated 24 November: Arona and Adeje have both advised that municipal activities have been suspended this weekend due to the weather forecasts. Please be aware that any event could be subject to postponement or even cancellation, and try to check before going out whether the event you’re attending is still actually being held.
Updated 23 November: It’s starting to feel a little bit festive and that feeling will be fully realized in Santa Cruz tonight when the official city Christmas lights are switched on in a two-hour spectacle with live music. Also tonight is the second event of this season’s Canarias Folk Fest in Los Cristianos in the Plaza de La Pescadora on the harbour promenade: events start at 4pm and go on through the evening.
Foodies throughout Guía de Isora and beyond will be relishing the start of the now famous Ruta de Tapa which also starts today, and will run on Thursdays to Sundays between now and 10 December. Less “gastronomic” for some but equally tasty, Adeje and La Orotava are each holding a San Andrés chestnut night tomorrow, Friday, 24 November.
Back in Los Cristianos tomorrow, and again in the Plaza de la Pescadora, the first of the municipal Saint Cecilia concerts will be given by alumni of the music school from 5.30pm: the concerts carry on in various parts of the borough through the coming week. And finally, returning to La Orotava, sadly the Winter Festival which was scheduled for this weekend has been postoned until the weekend 9-10 December because of the weather forecast.
Have a great weekend, however you spend it.

Before then, however, the Adeje Festival of Theatre and Dance kicks off with tonight’s performance of the Morfema company’s comedy, “El buen Samaritano” (Good Samaritan). Keep an eye open too for any local chestnut events because the whole of November is dedicated to San Andrés fiestas and fairs. Also, just a reminder that next week is the biennial Agatha Christie Festival in Puerto de la Cruz. Whatever you end up doing, have a great weekend!
Updated 28 September: A couple of excellent causes behind charity events this weekend, with the World’s biggest coffee morning in Callao Salvaje in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at 10am tomorrow morning in Callao Salvaje, and the Adeje volunteer Bomberos hold charity fund-raising Oktoberfest all day on Saturday. A very different event takes place on Friday evening with a European Volcanoes Night in Puerto de la Cruz with what’s described as an “eruption of art, culture, music, gastronomy, school activities, geotourism, exhibitions and scientific debates”, and on Sunday there’s a Women’s self defence and awareness seminar in Las Chafiras. Have a great weekend, whatever you’re doing!
Updated 1 September: Another full weekend with a Fight Night in Guargacho’s Centro Hípico Xanadú tonight, and following the sporting theme, the Arona Cup tomorrow in the second Torneo de Golf Pitch and Putt in Los Palos and the rather more strenuous triathlon in Guía de Isora on Sunday, as well as the 62nd Cycling Tour of Tenerife. For the less sporty, the famous Pinolere arts and crafts fair will be taking place in La Orotava throughout the whole weekend, and those attending could easily pop down the hill to cool off and get refreshment at the Oktoberfest in Puerto de la Cruz!
This weekend is the culmination of Los Cristianos’ Virgen del Carmen fiesta, and the town will be filled with music and activities. On Saturday there is entertainment throughout the day around the harbour, and there are events in the evening in Church Square. The main procession on Sunday will see the embarkation of the virgin followed by the traditional fireworks display in the bay and a party in the fairground. Another very popular event, but just starting, is that of the Fiestas de San Blas in Los Abrigos, which start this weekend on Saturday with the Noche de Taifa in the plaza followed by the Romería Barquera on Sunday: the fiesta’s main days are next weekend.
And finally, what a lovely way to wind up the weekend with the RFB Ballet de Moscú’s Don Quijote in Los Cristianos. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, have a great time!

Tomorrow, Friday 11th, there’s the fight night – Men of Honour – in Granadilla, and on Saturday 12th, there’s the Alcalá bay swim and the ever popular Los Abrigos Beer Festival. Have a lovely time whatever you’re doing this weekend!
Not only is this an early weekend, it’s a long one too, with many smaller businesses taking a puente (bridge holiday) on Monday in view of the public holiday on Tuesday. That public holiday is for Asunción, the Assumption into Heaven of the Virgin Mary, and it is in connection with her personification as the Virgen de Candelaria that there are major celebrations in Candelaria itself on Monday and Tuesday. There are celebrations in her honour in Alcalá too, where the famous fireworks display takes place on Tuesday 15th.
And of course, all weekend we will have a chance of spotting one or several shooting stars as we experience the famous Perseid meteor shower! Whatever you’re doing this weekend, have a great time!
Updated 4 August: This weekend will be full of music for those attending the Arona Summer Festival being held in a new venue in Amarilla Golf between today and Sunday. Some local disruption may be inevitable with the crowds and camping for the event. Tomorrow, too, and continuing on Sunday, the Indian Ratha Yatra festival will fill Playa de las Américas with the sights, sounds, and smells of the subcontinent’s Festival of the Chariots. Whatever you do this weekend, have a great time.

Tomorrow on the west coast there’s the Travesía a nado – bay swim – between Playa La Arena and Puerto Santiago, and on Sunday, a different experience will be on offer in the hills with the Chirche Day of traditions looking back to a different time in what seems a different world.
