I’ve spoken before about the pinocha, the bed of pine needles that can be a real fire risk if not collected, and when collected is used as fertilizer and animal bedding amongst other things (see HERE). And now, multidisciplinary artist Gabriel Roca is putting on a photographic exhibition of the pinocha in Guía de Isora’s Cultural Centre from 7.30pm this Saturday 13 April.

Roca is from Tenerife and his website is HERE: his exhibition is focused on the ephemeral nature of the pinocha, and is entitled La Memoria del bosque (the memory of the forest) in a homage both to Canarian nature itself and to the traditional practices surrounding the collection and utilization of the material. Guía de Isora Ayuntamiento, organizers of the exhibition, say it has been inspired by the traditional customs of local fiestas, and reflets the mysticism and beauty of these stories.

The exhibition runs until 10 May in the Cultural Centre, which is on the main road through Guía de Isora near the Correos (Post Office). Apart from the first day, it will be open from 5-9pm Mondays to Thursdays. In Holy Week next week and until 20 April it will open for the same hours on Fridays, and on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm.
