An accident on the northbound carriageway of the TF1 near Poris de Abona brought traffic to a standstill around 2pm this afternoon after both its lanes were closed to allow bomberos to free a woman trapped in a vehicle which had left the road and crashed into the concrete side barrier. The overtaking lane of the southbound carriageway was also closed to provide room for a helicopter to land to transfer her to Candelaria hospital where her condition is said to be serious. Emergency services say that the car’s passenger was transferred to a hospital in the south with non-serious injuries. Apart from the inevitable major delays caused by the lane closures, an horrendous tailback was caused on the southbound carriageway, police say, thanks to the “efecto mirón”, what we would call rubbernecking drivers.
