Every Easter all eyes are on Adeje for its passion play (see HERE for last year’s article), but Guía de Isora has a unique and now internationally famous Easter programme, the star of which is the annual Pascua Florida. This sees the town’s streets filled with floral displays evoking the stations of the cross, as can be seen in the video below from a few years ago. In the old town centre itself, the plazas and pretty cobbled streets are filled with floral displays and contemporary art in a beautiful and moving visual representation of Christ’s journey through Jerusalem to the place of his crucifixion and death.

This year, the eleventh for the Pascua Florida, the displays will be on view in the casco – the oldest central part of Guía de Isora town – from 5pm on Maundy Thursday 18 April until Easter Sunday 21 April, with music and performances to accompany the floral displays. The Ayuntamiento says that this Easter floral tribute is unique in Spain, and in thematic and artistic terms Guía de Isora’s Pascua Florida has become almost as well known nationally as Adeje’s Pasión.

This year, for the first time, the council has announced an inaugural multi-disciplinary event on Saturday 13 April at 8.30pm in the town’s auditorium. The event is themed AMOR OMNIA VINCIT (Love Conquers All), and it’s described as a dreamy spectacle full of beauty, emotion and sensitivity bringing together dance, music and floral art in a performance set to surprise.

In addition to the displays themselves, Guía de Isora Ayuntamiento holds a photographic competition with monetary prizes. I’ll post details of this year’s in due course.
