Updated 24 January: Granadilla Ayuntamiento says that the results of analysis show that the sea at El Médano beach are fine for bathing at registering an E-Coli index of  10 ufc/100ml, within permitted limits. The council has therefore lifted the beach’s closure. The council is continuing to monitor the situation and check the water quality.

Original post 22 January: Granadilla Ayuntamiento has announced that El Médano beach has been closed while investigations are carried out into a sewage spill. The council says that it has instructed Entemanser, responsible for the drainage systems, to look into whether there had been a problem in their network or whether there is some sabotage. The beach will remain closed until at least the first results of the analysis which are being carried out today by public health inspectors.
