Garachico will host FICMEC 2019, the Festival Internacional de Cine Medioambiental de Canarias(International Environmental Film Festival of the Canaries), a celebration of films all focused in one way or another on the environment. This is the twentieth edition of the event, which is being held between 25 May and 2 June in the former convent of San Francisco. The festival will have official sections for cinematic fiction, documentary and animation, and will include parallel and educational activities.

Film festival prizes will be awarded for Best Feature Film or Animation, Best Documentary Feature, Best Short Film and Audience Award Telesforo Bravo. FICMEC is sponsored by Garachico Ayuntamiento, the Tenerife Cabildo, the Canarian Government, La Caixa and the Fundación CajaCanarias.
