Of course it’s a marketing thing, obviously, but Turespaña, Spain’s official tourism board, has declared the third Thursday of June to be World Tapas Day (if the link is troublesome just remove the “s” from the https). Technically, tapas are meant to be just a little “lid” for a drink, just a piece of bread, sometimes, with an olive or two, or an anchovy, but they’ve become much more than a nibble, and in Tenerife’s booming gastronomy sector, are a reason for a series of competitions, events, and artistry in almost every town in the island. So whether you go for papas bravas, garlic mushrooms, tortilla, croquetas, or pimientos de padron, today will be the perfect time to indulge!
