Jadel in concert in El Médano this Friday

Jadel in concert in El Médano this Friday

Tenerife’s own Jadel (Javier Luis Delgado) is one of the best-known Canarian artists, a brilliant singer and superb performer who started out in a Take That tribute act in Benidorm before his group became known internationally, and then went on to win Antena 3’s talent show El Número Uno in 2012. He has starred as Jesus Christ Superstar, and played Che Guevara in Evita, performing to sell-out audiences not only in the Santa Cruz auditorium, but around the whole of Spain as the musical toured the country.

And now he is back, for a concert in El Médano this Friday, 12 July, as part of his national Inolvidables Tour (Unforgettables). The show starts at 9pm in the plaza, and apart from some intimate songs with no more than acoustic accompaniment, Jadel may also be announcing his next musical project!

The concert forms part of Granadilla’s Sansofé season of cultural entertainments in El Médano and Los Abrigos during July and August.

A few tickets still available for the full and complete original version of West Side Story this Thursday to Saturday in Santa Cruz auditorium

Updated 1 July: And they’re setting up the scenery in the auditorium for West Side Story this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Cabildo says that a few tickets are still available so if you haven’t got yours yet, there might still be time. I have mine, can’t wait!

Original post 15 April: The classic Broadway musical West Side Story is coming to the Santa Cruz auditorium between 4 and 6 July, the Cabildo has announced. There will be five performances of the original and complete version of the tragic love story – a modern Romeo and Juliet – against the backdrop of the gang culture of the New York Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks: the first performance will be on the 4th at 8.30pm, while there will be two performances at 6pm and 10pm on the 5th and 6th. Tickets are available from the auditorium box office between 10am and 7.30pm Monday to Saturday (except fiestas), online at www.auditoriodetenerife.com or by phone to 902 317 327. The video below will hopefully give a flavour of what’s in store in case anyone still doesn’t know the stage or film production!

Route changed for the Puerto Santiago bay swim on Saturday 6 July due to ongoing sewage pipe problems

Route changed for the Puerto Santiago bay swim on Saturday 6 July due to ongoing sewage pipe problems

Updated 28 June: Santiago del Teide Ayuntamiento’s sports department has announced that the route will be modified for this bay swim due, as with the recent cancellation of the San Juan’s Eve bonfire, to what it calls “the persistence of the problem in the underwater outlet pipe”. The new route will be a round route, starting and ending at Playa la Arena as described in the image below (click to see full size).  At some point it might be more effective actually to solve the problem of said underwater outlet pipe …

Original post 15 May: Many coastal resorts hold a Travesía a nado – a competitive swim across the bay – and Santiago del Teide’s is between Playa La Arena and Playa de El Bajío in Puerto Santiago at 5pm on Saturday 6 July. It is the 24th time the travesía has been held and those who want to take part can register HERE, the main website where there is full information of the event.

This weekend in Tenerife

This weekend in Tenerife

Updated 20 June: A varied weekend this, starting today with the last couple of days of the International Festival of Latin Jazz and Ritmos del Mundo, both in Golf Costa Adeje  as part of the Summer Sounds of Adeje. Also already underway and continuing until Sunday is the Arona Summer Festival! in Playa de las Américas. A little quieter, perhaps, many are always interested in the Taucho fiestas and Ethnographic Days – rural Tenerife as you’d dream it which this year are on Friday and Saturday, and equally many will be be delighted to see the Corpus Christi carpets in south Tenerife on Saturday and Sunday.

For something completely different, however, you could try the Annual Costa Adeje Cocktail Competition at the Tourism Development Centre in El Galéon, or the Summer Solstice at the pyramids in the Güímar Ethnographic Parque, both on Friday, or take part in a beach clean-up at Poris on Saturday. The biggest thing happening this weekend, however, is the midsummer festival of San Juan Bautista (St John the Baptist). San Juan’s Day is actually on Monday, the 24th every year, but it’s on San Juan’s Eve that Tenerife has its own “bonfire night”, with celebrations in the hills, villages and above all on the beaches: there’s full information HERE about the Noche and the Día itself of San Juan Bautista.

However you spend the weekend, I hope you have a fantastic time!
