Updated 17 October: The 2019 poster for Santa Cruz’s carnival has been chosen by public vote, and announced tonight. It’s this one, designed by José Luis Trujillo González and called Encarnación del Carnaval marino to fit with the Deep Sea theme of the carnival.

Updated 4 July: Organizers have selected the finalists and now the public can vote for their favourite poster for next year’s carnival. The posters are HERE: just select by clicking on the button at the bottom of the poster selected, and then click on the blue “Voto” button at the bottom right of the page. All the finalists are based on the theme for the 2019 Carnaval – Las profundidades marinas (the deep sea). There is one vote per IP address. The ten finalists are shown in the following image, click anywhere on it to enlarge.

The other big carnaval in the north, in Puerto de la Cruz, will be from 16 February to 10 March on the theme of “Invasión Carnavalera” (Carnivalian invasion), clearly envisaging an invasion from outer space!

Original post 22 March: The 2018 carnival has only just finished but the selection of the poster for next year’s Carnaval is underway. The theme for Santa Cruz 2019 is Las profundidades marinas (the deep sea), and the rules and regulations for submissions for the poster can be found on the carnival website HERE from Monday, 26 March. Submissions can be made from Monday 26th until 8 June.

Santa Cruz Ayuntamiento, organizers of the event, say that submissions are welcome from anyone, and can be submitted by a team or an individual, but each entrant can make just one submssion. The chosen poster will win its designer a prize of €1,500, and of course eternal fame in the Carnaval Hall of Fame!

The provisional dates for the main events are as follows:

Gala de Elección de la Reina: 27 February
Cabalgata Anunciadora: 1 March
Coso apoteosis: 5 March
