The council has also confirmed the always highly-anticipated dates for the carnival, which are 21 March to 1 April,  period in which Arona says the area will be invaded by wild animals, tropical forests, and an unbeatably colourful atmosphere!

Updated 17 October 2018: The 2019 poster for Santa Cruz’s carnival has been chosen by public vote, and announced tonight. It’s this one, designed by José Luis Trujillo González and called Encarnación del Carnaval marino to fit with the Deep Sea theme of the carnival.

The posters are HERE: just select by clicking on the button at the bottom of the poster selected, and then click on the blue “Voto” button at the bottom right of the page. All the finalists are based on the theme for the 2019 Carnaval – Las profundidades marinas (the deep sea). There is one vote per IP address. The ten finalists are shown in the following image, click anywhere on it to enlarge.

The other big carnaval in the north, in Puerto de la Cruz, will be from 16 February to 10 March on the theme of “Invasión Carnavalera” (Carnivalian invasion), clearly envisaging an invasion from outer space!
