Again and again unsuspecting tourists at viewpoints become victims of brazen car thieves. Only a small break away from the car for a holiday photo with a panoramic view can be expensive. The experienced thieves have a good eye for the situation and the frivolity that most people display during these holiday moments. They act as quick as a flash. Such a situation was observed by the Local Police from Santiago del Teide at a Miradar which overlooks Masca. They used an open car window to quickly grab the valuables inside. Thanks to the officers’ observation, the two suspects were intercepted as they escaped in a private car. They had several objects with them, which presumably came from this and other thefts of the same kind and whose origin they could not explain. The Guardia Civil from Icod de los Vinos were called in and they arrested the two suspects. They are two foreigners, aged 32 and 35 years. In Icod, a tourist had already filed a complaint because she had been robbed at one of the Miradors on the way to Masca, possibly also by these two suspects. Further victims are not yet ruled out. The investigation is still ongoing.
