The FCO has confirmed that three British residents, all in the Alicante province of the Valencian Community, have been honoured with an MBE by the Queen in the New Year Honours List 2019. The Member of the British Empire order, awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community, has gone to Ricky Garland, Volunteer of HELP Vega Baja; Elaine Mary Horton, President of HELP Jalon Valley; and Candida Jane Wright, President of HELP Denia and Marina Alta, who also received a Points of Light award two years ago.

The British Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley, said he was “delighted that the commitment and compassion of Ricky Garland, Elaine Mary Horton and Candida Wright have been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen in this way, after so many years of service to British nationals in Spain.” The full New Year 2019 Diplomatic Service and Overseas List of Honours can be viewed HERE, and there is more information about the various types of honours and awards HERE.
